DNC picks co-hosts for next debate

We now know who is hosting the fourth democratic debate.

  • CNN and The New York Times have been named hosts of the fourth debate by the Democratic National Committee.
  • The fourth debate is slated to take place at Otterbein University in Ohio.
  • The debate is scheduled for Oct. 15, 2019, but could become a two night affair extending to Oct. 16.
  • CNN’s Anderson Cooper and Erin Burnett will moderate alongside New York Times National Editor Marc Lacey.
  • The debate’s video stream will be carried on CNN, CNN en Español, CNN International, The New York Times and CNN’s website and associated mobile apps.
  • Audio will be available on SiriusXM, the Westwood One Radio Network and NPR.
  • The DNC previously announced a total of 12 debates will be held before the primaries. Additional ones are planned for November and December and January through April 2020, though no locations or hosts have been announced.
  • CNN previously hosted the July 2019 debate from Detroit — including a much ballyhooed but derided on air “draw” to determine the lineups.
  • There’s no immediate word if CNN or the Times will host a draw special this time around.
  • This debate requires a 2% polling threshold in at least four DNC approved polls plus 130,000 unique donors including 400 donors per state from at least 20 different states.
  • As of now, 11 candidates say they have met this criteria.
  • If DNC verifies these numbers, the debate would be split across two nights since the DNC previously announced it would cap single nights to 10 participants.
