The man who accused CNN anchor Don Lemon of assaulting him nearly three years ago has dropped his case claiming he “misremembered” what happened.

Dustin Hice first started claiming the assault took place in 2018 in a Hamptons bar in 2019. At first, he appeared to have several witnesses who could back up his claims, but those witnesses later recanted and even accused Hice of allegedly offering to pay for the untrue testimony.

Hice had already been ordered to pay $77,000 in Lemon’s legal fees over the case after he failed to comply with court rules.

“After a lot of inner reflection and a deep dive into my memory, I have come to realize that my recollection of the events that occurred on the night in question when I first met CNN anchor Don Lemon were not what I thought they were when I filed this lawsuit. As a result, I am dropping the case,” Hice’s attorney wrote in a statement.
