Fox’s “Empire” has been renewed — but for what will be its last season.

• Although the show got word that it would be renewed for a sixth season previously, during a pre-upfront conference call, Fox announced it would its last year.
• The popular series was subject to a slew of negative publicity surrounding a purported attack on star Jussie Smollett.
