A Fox contributor called the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump “high-quality masturbation material” on Twitter Feb. 10, 2021.

Mollie Hemingway, who is editor of The Federalist and and a fellow at Hillsdale College in addition to being a contributor on Fox’s right leaning cable network, tweeted the statement as part of a longer response to MSNBC “The Last Word” producer Kyle Griffin, who reported that NBC News correspondent Garett Haake had noted Republican Senator Josh Hawley was “sitting with his legs up on the seat in front of him, reading unrelated materials,” during the second day of Trump’s second impeachment trial for inciting the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

“I’m sure he can multi-task (particularly with such unserious theater),” Hemingway tweeted, continuing to note how “funny” it was to see how much the “impeachment farce” make those who view it as “high-quality masturbation material.”

The tweet gathered a variety of responses, with some users siding with Hawley’s apparent lack of interest but many calling her out for making light of a trial concerning the insurrection event that left multiple people dead and injured.
