
GLAAD, partners release guide to covering LGBTQ athletes at the Olympics
On the week the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics are set to kick off, GLAAD, along with Athlete Ally and Pride House Tokyo, is releasing a guide for journalists covering the events. While Tokyo 2020 is taking place a year late due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, it is also the first Olympic Games for which out transgender athletes have fully qualified under standards that have been in place since 2004. There are also a historic number of out LGBTQ athletes overall; this year over 157 LGBTQ athletes will participate, up from 56 in 2016 and just 23 in 2012.
