After launching local news at 3 p.m., has WPLG in Miami–Ft. Lauderdale shown there is a demand for local news at nontraditional times?
- In August 2018, WPLG added a half hour of news at 3 p.m. after “General Hospital.”
- Early ratings were positive enough for the station to drop syndicated “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” at 3:30 p.m. and replace it with another 30 minute local news block in November, according to the station.
- The newscasts, which are branded as “FirstCast at 3 p.m.” and “FirstCast at 3:30 p.m.,” both scored wins in the Adults 25-54 demo in English language viewers in November sweeps, according to a press release issued by the station.
