Is Verizon considering selling HuffPost?
The Financial Times is reporting that Verizon Media Group is exploring selling HuffPost.
- Originally known as The Huffington Post, the digital news site was purchased by AOL in 2011.
- Verizon would then buy AOL for $4.4 billion in 2015 as part of a broader strategy to acquire high traffic web properties to sell ads on using its own proprietary technology.
- It would go on to purchase Yahoo! in 2017 for $4.5 billion, further adding digital properties to its portfolio.
- However, Verizon seems to be backing off that strategy — at least to some extent.
- It sold Tumblr, which was part of the Yahoo! acquisition for $3 million, well below the $20 million Yahoo! paid for it in 2013.
