Jesse Watters praises Robin Roberts for R. Kelly interview — except he was mixing up black female journalists

Conservative commentator Jesse Watters mixed up CBS News‘ Gayle King and ABC News‘ Robin Roberts during “The Five” Wednesday afternoon.

• The show was discussing King’s interview and R. Kelly’s outburst.
• “Hats off to Gayle King, for totally redeeming herself after the Smollett fiasco,” said Watters.
• With that statement it was clear Watters was mixing up the two interviews, which, incidentally, were both conducted by black female journalists and featured black male subjects.
• Robin Roberts interviewed Smollett earlier this month.
• Dana Perino was quick to point out Watters’ mistake.
• “Oh. I knew that,” said Watters. “Sorry for Robin Roberts out there.”
• Fox previously came under fire for airing a background photo of Patti LaBelle during coverage of Aretha Franklin’s death.
• The New York Times also found itself in a similar situation after it confused Omarosa Manigault-Newman and Angela Bassett.
