Despite almost non-existent ratings, reported low morale among staffers and a series of high profile departures, Nexstar’s NewsNation has hired an ABC News correspondent as an anchor and reporter.
Adrienne Bankart is joining the network as a national correspondent.
She is also expected to anchor a new national newscast to be launched later in 2021. Nexstar did not indicate the timeslot for that newscast, only saying “as NewsNation continues moving forward with plans to expand its news programming to all time periods,” but execs have hinted publicly that a morning newscast may be coming soon.
Bankert had been with ABC since 2015 and also worked in local news.
Nexstar recently also named a new political correspondent in its Washington, D.C. bureau, as well as a chief to lead that newsroom.
