With Norah O’Donnell set to take over the “CBS Evening News” July 15, 2019, the network appears to be pointing the broadcast back to its roots.
In promotional materials released over the past few months, the network has been framing the broadcast as hard hitting, investigative and driven by “big gets” both internally and externally.
The network is also emphasizing ties to legendary anchor Walter Cronkite.
The strategy ties into its strategy in the morning on the third place rated “CBS This Morning.”
It is also in line with the “Original Reporting” tagline the network uses.
Sources tell the Los Angeles Times that the format appears to be a good fit for O’Donnell, who is said to be driven, hard-driving and competitive.
