Revamped ‘New Year’s Eve Live’ on CNN takes home key ratings wins

“New Year’s Eve Live” on CNN delivered key ratings wins for the network, including besting the competition in total viewers and key demos.

  • Andy Cohen, who replaced Kathy Griffin, hosted the special for the first time on CNN with Anderson Cooper.
  • CNN fired Kathy Griffin earlier in 2017 after a controversial photo of her with a bloody head resembling Donald Trump surfaced.
  • The 11 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. block also became the most watched New Year’s Eve special on CNN ever with 3.284 million viewers, according to Nielsen.
  • CNN’s programming also took first in two key demos: Adults 25-54 and adults 18-34.
  • The entire show, which ran from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., also saw ratings up over last year’s in both key viewers and demos for the entire evening.
  • “New Year’s Eve Live with Don Lemon & Brooke Baldwin,” which aired from 12:30 to 1:05 a.m., also came in first in total viewers and in the demos.
