Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has introduced a bill that would ban “addictive” features on social media.
The bill, Social Media Addiction Reduction Technology (SMART) Act seeks to prohibit features such as autoplaying videos, infinite scroll and gamification features such as badges.
The legislation also calls for social media companies to build “user friendly” interfaces with features designed to limit the amount of time users stay engaged with the platforms.
