“Saturday Night Live” “Weekend Update” co-anchor Michael Che says he’s departing the satirical news segment at the end of the current season.
“This is my last year,” she said during a popup comedy show at a Minnesota salon. “You know my tie is a clip-on, right? What man wears a clip-on tie to work for eight years — that’s embarrassing.”
It was not immediately clear if Che is leaving only “Weekend” or will continue on with the show.
He is also co-head writer for the show alongside his “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost.
Che has co-anchored the segment since 2014 and was promoted to co-head writer in 2017, making him the first Black person to serve in that role.
