After a surprise move to streamer Peacock, NBC has announced that it has renewed soap operaDays of Our Lives” for another two seasons.

That will keep the show on through its 60th season, which will air during the 2024-2025 season.

In August 2022, NBC surprised many by moving the soap exclusively to its streaming service, replacing the show with an hour of news under the name “NBC News Daily.”

The schedule change has resulted in ratings fluctuations, particularly in some key demos, but the “Daily” is likely less expensive to produce than “Days,” meaning it could ultimately be more lucrative for NBC. NBC does not regularly break down production costs or ad revenue on a per-show basis.

At the time of the move, NBC said that despite “Days” being often stereotypically associated with an older demographic, it actually has a strong digital following.

As a streaming service, NBC does not release detailed viewership figures for Peacock and it is not rated by a third party in any way that is comparable to its time on the network.

When “Days” exited NBC, it was getting around 1.6 million viewers, typically finishing fourth behind CBS’s top-rated “The Young and the Restless,” CBS’s “Bold and Beautiful” and ABC’s “General Hospital.”

Some saw the move to Peacock as a way for NBC to quietly make the soap fade into the dark and eventually cancel it, though the show will, assuming everything runs as planned, now be on Peacock for at least three years after moving off-network.
