GateHouse Media has laid off staffers at at least four of its newspapers.
At the Oklahoman in Oklahoma City, 14 workers were laid off, including five in the newsroom.
GateHouse purchased the Oklahoman in September 2018 and laid off 37 after the deal closed.
The company’s Fall River, Massachusetts, Herald News, New Bedford, Massachusetts, Standard-Times and Pueblo, Colorado, Chieftain also laid off one or two employees each.
Meanwhile, GateHouse and newspaper giant Gannett have announced plans to merge, a move that’s viewed largely as a way to cut costs further.
