NBC cuts Shane Gillis from ‘SNL’
It turns out Shane Gillis’ tenure as an almost cast member of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” was just one Saturday long — and the show hasn’t even debuted for the season.
- On Sept. 12, 2019, NBC announced it was adding Gillis, Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang to its cast.
- Then, racist videos of Gillis making fun of Asians surfaced — but have mostly since been deleted.
- After a weekend of controversy, NBC announced it was has parted ways with Gillis and he won’t be be part of the show when it returns Sept. 29, 2019.
- Yang, meanwhile, was trumpeted as the show’s first Asian American cast member.
