NBC Nightly News” originated from Washington, D.C., April 5, 2020, with “Today” Saturday co-anchor Peter Alexander.

Alexander anchored from the familiar “flashcam” position that overlooks the Washington, D.C. bureau’s newsroom.

Alexander is based in Washington, D.C., thanks to his duties as a White House correspondent.

Before the pandemic, Alexander would travel to New York each week to anchor the Saturday “Today” show alongside Kristen Welker, who is also based in D.C. and also does double duty on the weekend “Today.”

However, the pair has been anchoring Saturday “Today” from the “Meet the Press” studio since the pandemic to cut down on travel.
