Ellis Williams was offered a job covering Oklahoma State University sports for The Oklahoman, the GateHouse Media owned newspaper in Oklahoma City — and he accepted.
However, earlier in August, the newspapers HR department called with stunning news: GateHouse was instituting a hiring freeze and the offer was being rescinded.
Williams had been working at the Post-Star in Glen Falls, New York, and even quit his job there before receiving an offer from the Oklahoman saying he felt confident about the possibility of an offer.
He was scheduled to start Aug. 12.
