Romans exited CNN in July 2023 and it was previously reported she was headed to NBC, though her role there was not immediately clear.
In her new business-focused role, her reporting will be seen across NBC News and MSNBC.
Romans most recently was anchor of “Early Start” on CNN, the network’s early morning newscast.
When she left the network in July, she was one of a string of on-air talent and behind-the-scenes producer who had decamped for NBC, including former “CNN Newsroom” anchor Ana Cabrera, who became an anchor of “MSNBC Reports.”
CNN has been undergoing upheaval since now-former CEO Chris Licht took over in 2022 — but his tenure was marred by low ratings and some minor scandals. Morale reportedly sunk at the network. Licht was also the first leader under the Warner Bros. Discovery regime, who implemented cost-cutting while also shutting down streamer CNN+ after less than a month in operation.
Neither Romans’ or Cabrera’s departure have been directly linked poor morale or cost-cutting. Neither appeared regularly on CNN+.
Since Romans left CNN, Kasie Hunt, a former “Way Too Early” anchor has found herself back in the early morning anchor chair, taking over Romans’ role.
Hunt, in turn, left NBC News for a daily program on CNN+ that stopped production shortly after WBD shut down the streamer.
