On Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020’s “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” the show carried portions of a Donald Trump New Jersey campaign rally live.
- The show began teasing coverage with a promo box in the corner of the screen with a live feed of rally prep about seven minutes into the show.
- About 22 minutes in, the show cut to the rally live for about 10 minutes.
- As Trump introduced Jeff Van Drew, a democrat who switched to the Republican party and represents the district the rally was being held in, Dobbs cut in for a break.
- Immediately after cutting away, an ad paid for by the Committee to Defend the President ran.
- When Dobbs returned after several additional commercials, he announced that Fox “I’ve just been informed by management that we need to break away from the Trump rally.”
- Dobbs appeared a bit rattled and disjointed as he attempted to get back to more business focused content.
