Quibi cancels red carpet launch event
Mobile, bite sized streaming service Quibi hasn’t even launched — but its much hyped debut has already been hampered by coronavirus, reports Variety.
The service, which goes live April 6, 2020, had planned on an April 5 red carpet style event but that’s now been axed, though the launch is still expected to happen as planned.
The service, which has raised $1.75 billion to fund the production of its short form video content, which includes feature film length offerings broken down into short segments that are less than 10 minutes.
It’s planning on releasing 175 original shows extending over 8,500 episodes before the end of its first year.
Quibi’s red carpet was set for three hours but the company never announced what stars would attend (or if any of them pulled out due to coronavirus worries.
