Dominion Voting Systems is suing MyPillow founder and CEO Mike Lindell for making numerous false claims about its voting equipment and the 2020 presidential election.
Dominion is seeking $1.3 billion in damages.
The suit is the latest in a series of billion dollar-plus cases brought by Dominion and fellow voting equipment company Smartmatic against right wing media outlets and individuals who have allegedly perpetrated false claims about the companies.
Some of these individuals made these claims on outlets such as Fox and OAN, who later aired a taped segment attempting to clarify the misleading and false statements allegedly made by hosts and guests.
Lindell himself has been buying advertising time on OAN to run what he claims is a factual presentation of voter fraud evidence. The network is running a lengthy disclaimer before and after each airing.
Lindell is a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, even enjoying access to the White House before his term ended and reportedly advising Trump.
His often unhinged appearances on TV are riddled with inaccuracies and personal attacks against the anchors and others.
After an initial batch of these claims, Dominion sent a cease and desist letter to Lindell.
He then appeared on “Flashpoint” on The Victory Channel Jan. 20, 2021, where he goaded Dominion to sue him, literally saying “Please sue me, Dominion,” during the appearance.
Now Dominion has taken him up on that offer.
Dominion’s suit against Lindell cites claims he has made on TV appearance, social media and the “film” he’s running on OAN.
The suit follows Lindell having personal social media accounts banned for posting false information about voter fraud.
He then allegedly attempted to subvert the ban and use the MyPillow Twitter account to spread misinformation. Twitter banned the corporate account (@MyPillowUSA) as a result of these alleged actions.
