Shopify giving each employee $1,000 to get set up to work from home amid coronavirus worries
Shopify employees are being given $1,000 to help outfit their home workspaces as the company moves to remote working to address concerns about coronavirus spread in its offices and public transportation used for commuting, reports Business Insider.
According to a Business Insider source, the company is letting employees use the funds to purchase whatever they need to make working from home more comfortable and productive.
Shopify announced that all of its approximately 5,000 employees will work from home starting March 16, 2020 and until further notice.
Assuming everyone takes advantage of the full amount, the company, which has yet to show a profit, would shell out $5 million for setting up its workers to work at home.
Shopify saw its 2019 revenue rise 47% to $1.578 billion but lost over $124.8 million.
Shopify has spent heavily on opening lavish offices around the world — most of which will presumably sit unused until the work from home requirement is lifted.
